JOSEP MARIA MARISCAL: THROWING & CRYSTALLINE GLAZES

11-17 JUNE 2026

We are delighted to welcome internationally renowned ceramic artist Josep Maria Mariscal for an immersive 7-day pottery experience.

This workshop is divided into two three-day parts, which can be joined separately or combined for a full week of skill-building and inspiration:

1) Throwing Workshop (11-13 June)
2) Crystalline Glazes Workshop (15-17 June)

Whether you want to refine your throwing techniques, explore the unique beauty of crystalline glazes, or both, this is a rare opportunity to learn directly from one of the most respected figures in contemporary ceramics.

About Josep Maria Mariscal
Josep Maria Mariscal comes from a family of potters in La Bisbal de Empordà, Spain. He began throwing clay at a very young age under the guidance of his father. A Master Potter recognised by La Generalitat de Catalunya and a member of the International Academy of Ceramics in Geneva, Mariscal has spent decades exploring the worlds of crystalline glazes, raku, and advanced wheel-throwing techniques.

Since opening his own studio in 2003, he has conducted workshops worldwide – from the USA to Australia – and played a key role in organising Cristalls2013, Spain’s first crystalline glaze convention. His work is characterised by technical mastery and a pursuit of unique, one-of-a-kind pieces.

Course Descriptions
Part 1 Throwing Workshop 11-13 June (three days)

This intensive wheel-throwing workshop focuses on creating more complex, advanced, and larger-scale vessels, refining precision, and improving efficiency at the wheel. Mornings begin with detailed demonstrations of Mariscal’s techniques, followed by hands-on practice under his guidance.

Daily Schedule
9 am – 6 pm including lunch break
Generally, the first two days focus on throwing forms, double walls, and necks, while the third day is dedicated to trimming and creating textured pieces.

All key techniques will be covered, including double-walled forms, narrow necks, and large pieces, but the pace and exercises will be tailored to support the group’s development.
