Plaster Workshop 2022

Guldagergaard is proud to announce the Plaster Workshop: Introduction to Mold Making with Guldagergaard Technician Kasia Misciur.

This Workshop aims to introduce participants to the basic knowledge of Plaster Mold and Model making for the slip casting and press molding ceramic process.

This course invites participants to begin or continue exploring the potential of plaster techniques in ceramic art and design ware by creating a Master Model and Mold using the guidance and assistance of the Guldagergaard Team and facilities.

This workshop will cover simple mold and model ideas and techniques in the following areas:

– Introduction to Plaster and how it is used, historically, industrially and in contemporary ceramic practices.

– Introduction in using Plaster, mixing ratios and calculations for mold and model making.

– Introduction in using the Plaster Wheel.

– Basic sledging techniques, using profiles for model making.

– Making simple one to multiple-part molds that can be used for slip casting or press molding.

– One-on-one tuition and advise with participant projects or ideas and problem solving

By participating in the Plaster Workshop at Guldagergaard you will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills in creating master models and molds ready for use.

Price: 3400 DKK

Price includes:

all plaster materials, recycled clay, studio space rental from 09.00 – 17.00, use of all Guldagergaard equipment, one-on-one tuition and support, a presentation in using plaster molds and models.

Add on: Short Term Residency possibility

Guldagergaard offers the possibility for Workshop participants to combine the Workshop days with 1 week residency after the Workshop for additional price of 2500 DKK (incl tax). Price includes access to Studio facilities and accommodation for 1 week. Price doesn’t include additional firings and materials.

Schedule of the Workshop:

Day 1

10:00 – Tea and Coffee in upstairs studio for introduction to workshop and plaster room facilities. Can discuss any individual projects or own objectives that the participants would like to gain from the workshop

10:30 – Introduction to plaster and how it is used, based on a simple example of casting ready-made object

12:30 – Lunch break

13:30 – Plaster wheel demonstration. How to set up and free form on plaster wheel. How to use metal profiles to create simple forms that can be made repeatedly. Participants can then use the plaster wheel to make their own forms or can start work on their own specific projects.

17:00 – Clean up for the day

Day 2

10:00 – Introduction to making simple one to multiple-part molds that can be used for slip casting or press molding.

12:30 – Lunch break

13:30 – Discussing participant’s projects individually. Working on specific projects.

17:00 – Clean up for the day

Day 3

10:00 – Basic sledging techniques, using metal profiles for model making, demonstrating hand carving techniques in plaster (for example making handles) and free forming shapes

12:30 – Lunch break

13:30 – Work on individual projects using techniques learned during the course

17:00 – Clean up for the day, Workshop ends
