WOOD FIRING: SODA KILN AND BOURRY BOX KILN

Join us for a 10-day communal workshop where you’ll experience two wood firing techniques using the Soda Kiln and Bourry Box Kiln. This is an excellent opportunity to explore the unpredictable nature of wood firing, experiment with surface treatments, and learn the full firing process.

・Notebook, pen, and camera for documentation

Schedule
Day 1: Introductions into the space meet everyone start glazing/wadding, Preparing Wood 
Day 2: Wadding, glazing, preparing to load and preparing Wood
Day 3: Loading the Big soda (Start)
Day 4: Fire the big soda
Day 5: Rest
Day 6: Loading the Bourry box (Start)
Day 7: Fire the Bourry box
Day 8: Rest
Day 9: Unload and clean the Big soda ( Talk and Discuss the Results)
Day 10: Unload and clean the Bourry box ( Talk and Discuss the Results) Saying our goodbyes 

This workshop is a great way to experiment with surface, ash and flame effects and to be part of a firing team, working together and sharing new experiences. An important part of making the event successful is being aware of its experimental nature, which will create vastly different results based on each individual’s work, what clay bodies and glazes have been used.

Please note
・Evening meals are not included but can be organized between the group
・Each firing takes about 30 hours
・All wares for firing must be bisqued to be fired in this workshop
・Ceramic work should be no more than: 45 cm high, 40 cm wide, 90 cm long
・The amount of each participant’s pieces going in the kiln depends on the number of participants. If you bring a lot of work, it may not get fired – thank you for your understanding.

The Bourry Box kiln measures: L 170 cm, H 50 cm, W 50 cm
The Soda kiln measures: L 90 cm, H 110 cm, W 50 cm

Meals and Drinks:
Participants are responsible for providing their own meals. You are welcome to use the communal kitchen in the manor house. During the workshop, we will provide coffee and tea.

Accommodation during the Workshop:
It is possible to rent a room at Guldagergaard for 300 DKK per night (when available)

Add on: Short-term Residency Option
Guldagergaard offers workshop participants the option to book a one or two-week residency before the workshop for an additional fee of 2500 DKK. This price includes access to studio facilities and accommodation for one week. It does not cover additional firings and materials.
