OLIVER HARDING & BJARNE CHRISTENSEN: WOOD-FIRING & THROWING FUNCTIONAL WARE

23-30 JULY 2026

This workshop combines focused throwing instruction with a hands-on wood-firing experience in Guldagergaard’s small soda kiln.

During the first part of the workshop, participants will work with Bjarne Christensen (DK), focusing on ceramic production techniques and the making of functional ware. Participants will learn how to create a variety of forms, including teapots, cups, plates, and bowls.
Drawing on his extensive experience as a professional production potter, Bjarne will share expert guidance, practical tips, and efficient working methods. The workshop will cover both traditional Danish forms and approaches to working with high-fire stoneware clay.
By the end of the throwing course, participants will have strengthened their ability to repeat forms, learned how to make a range of traditional wares, and developed more effective techniques for consistent production.

The second part of the workshop will be led by Guldagergaard kiln yard manager, Oliver Harding (UK), and will focus on wood-firing in the small soda kiln. Participants will take part in the preparation, glazing, loading, firing, unloading, and cleaning process, gaining insight into the rhythm and collaborative nature of wood-firing.
