At Guldagergaard the AIR-program is the most important aspect of the center. Being an Artist-in-Residence here means becoming part of a vibrant international community that encourages dialogue and the exchange of ideas and knowledge about materials and techniques.
We are committed to creating a supportive environment, with our skilled staff always on hand to help and guide resident artists.
Your residency at Guldagergaard
A residency can be inspiring, productive and a great boost for your career. You can focus on your projects and either jump-start or continue the direction of your work. And very often during a residency, long lasting professional collaborations and networks are formed.
Facilities for your ceramic practice
Residents have access to a wide range of facilities and equipment, including gas, electric and wood-fired kilns, glaze, plaster and mould-making workshops, a slip-casting room, wood workshop, auditorium, research library and gallery. Our kiln yard houses the largest variety of kilns at a single facility in Europe.
Your own studio space
As a resident artist at Guldagergaard you will have your own studio space, where you can work around the clock. Here you will have the time and space to experiment with new ideas and work uninterrupted by the daily tasks of life.
Length of stay
AIR residencies can last from one to six months. You can find available residency periods and further details on the application page and in the application form.
ACCOMODATION
AT GULDAGERGAARD
Resident artists stay in our beautiful manor house from 1910. The house has a shared kitchen, living room and library, along with a large welcoming communal terrace overlooking the extensive sculpture park.
With up to 12 artists living under one roof, the sense of community becomes an important part of the residency experience, and one that many former residents say they would not have wanted to miss.
Shared meals and community
There are several supermarkets nearby, and you will have your own space in the shared fridge and kitchen cupboards.
At the same time, sharing meals is part of life at Guldagergaard. Resident artists take turns cooking dinner for the group, bringing everyone together around the table after a day in the studios. Besides being a chance to enjoy good food and good company, it means more uninterrupted studio time on the evenings when someone else is cooking.
Your room
All of the bedrooms are single and located on the 2nd floor. The rooms have both pillows and duvets, and we can provide you with linen and towels as well.
The rooms have recently been redecorated, each with its own character. Depending on the room, you will have either a private or shared bathroom.
If you prefer to stay off-site, we will be happy to help you find accommodation near Guldagergaard.
HOW TO
APPLY FOR A RESIDENCY
We welcome applications from professional artists working with ceramics. To apply, simply complete the application form and make sure to read the instructions carefully before submitting. We recommend applying around six months before your preferred residency period.
All applications are reviewed by the Guldagergaard Ceramic Advisory Board, and you will be notified of the outcome shortly after the review.
Grant opportunity
Each year, Guldagergaard offers a number of AIR Grants that provide fully funded residencies. You can find more information on the AIR Grant page.

Prices for Artist-in-Residence in 2026/27:
- 9,200 DKK pr. month for a single bedroom w. shared bathroom (only if available)
- 10,200 DKK pr. month for a single room w. private bathroom (only if available)

Food, firings, and materials are not included in the AIR-price. As an Artist-in-Resident, you get a 75% discount on workshops.

Artists must bring their own tools for working in the studio
As an Artist-in-Residence, you are expected to work independently in the studios and follow the Studio Rules and House Rules. All materials and firing expenses will be accounted for according to the current rates and the Danish suppliers’ prices. All technical assistance for specific projects must be scheduled ahead of time og paid for according to the use.´
Safety and insurance
As an Artist-in-Resident, you are responsible for your own personal safety, and will be charged for any damage you may cause to other persons, facilities, equipment etc.
Please make sure that you have valid international work, health and accident insurance during your stay.
Documentation and donations
You are expected to leave 10 slides/images and write a brief report of your project for our archive. A short description is also required for artworks donated to the shop or the Guldagergaard Collection. All donations for the collection will be evaluated by the Advisory Board.
Computer and WIFI
Guldagergaard offers wireless Internet access for resident artists in the studios and manor house. Please bring your own computer and adaptor for projectors, printer, scanner etc. The public library in Skælskør has access to computers if you cannot bring your own.
Bikes
We have bikes for rent.
Shipping
Packages/luggage can be sent through the postal office or a local transport company. Shipping requires a proforma invoice. Ask the staff at Guldagergaard for further information. You pay for technical hours. Shipping is your own responsibility.
